Mobile WiMAX Business Models
3:30 - Wednesday, September 26 WiMAX Deployments Explored - Globally
Manish Gupta, VP Marketing & Alliance, Aperto Networks

Manish Gupta will present several case studies on how WiMAX is being deployed around the world. These case studies will focus on the 3.3 GHz, 3.5 GHz and 5.8GHz spectrum bands and on what enterprise and consumer applications service providers are focusing on in different parts of the world. Mr. Gupta's presentation will also cover the general status of the WiMAX market, standardization and certification, as well as issues around 16d and 16e variants of the WiMAX ecosystem.

4:30 - Wednesday, September 26 Mobile Broadband Business Strategies
Moderator: Ed Vilandrie, Co-Founder and Director, Altman Vilandrie
Panelists: Tom Flak, SVP, Operations, SOMA Networks
Brian Pawlus, Director, Product Marketing, Oracle Corporation
Kenneth Young, CMO, LCC International
Daniel Cho, Chief Strategy Officer, POSDATA
Don Stroberg, Vice President Sales and Distribution, Xohm, A Sprint Nextel Business Unit

This panel will consider business model challenges and opportunities in relation to WiMAX and Mobile Broadband Business Strategies. The market is primed for the emergence of WiMAX-enabled consumer electronics devices but the business model issues are complex. As part of this discussion, top industry executives will discuss how can providers establish WiMAX as an alternative the "traditional" wireless broadband services offered by 3G operators? Once momentum is gained, how can WiMAX stimulate growth in the mobile broadband market? Panelists will also discuss whether WiMAX should be viewed as a complementary or sole solution. Do players need to be successful in both WiMAX and traditional broadband solutions, or can one replace the other?

Sudeep Gupta, Director, Business Development, Broadband Wireless Access, Alcatel-Lucent
Dr. Junn-Kuen Liang, Vice President, Wireless Business Division, ZyXEL Corporation

WiMAX networks based on the IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard have been in the trial stages since 2006. During this session, we'll discuss some of the deployment issues and lessons learned from these early 16e trials as they evolve to become commercial networks. We'll discuss key technologies within the 16e standard that are critical for networks, such as the RF engineering implications between fixed and mobile deployments, radio features that affect the deployment, and two advanced antenna technologies, beam-forming and MIMO. We'll cover some real-world outdoor results to show how cell range is affected by these technologies. The lessons learned in 2006/2007 will be critical to learning how to build successful commercial networks in the coming years.

4:15 - Thursday, September 27 Mobile TV, Quad Play, and Broadband Embedded Consumer Electronics
Moderator: Phil Solis, Principal Analyst, Mobile Broadband, ABI Research
Panelists: Raghu Rau, Senior Vice President, Mobile TV Solutions, Motorola
Rakesh Kumar, Partner, Deloitte
Praduman Jain, Director, 4G WiMAX Mobile Broadband, Xohm, A Sprint Nextel Business Unit

Quad play refers to video, broadband Internet access, voice, and mobile services. Today, mobile services consists mainly of voice only, but this is set to change. Mobile broadband combines broadband and mobility, and allows for mobile devices to deliver bandwidth-hungry applications such as video. This panel will explore how service providers will offer new mobile services to a wider array of mobile broadband-enabled consumer electronics devices.
